What is a Beachbody Coach?

Some people have jobs that are very easy to understand.  I'm a plumber. I'm a doctor. I'm a teacher. I'm a car salesman.  We pretty much know what people in those jobs do.  However, when I introduce myself and someone asks me what I do, I have found that answering, "I am a Beachbody Coach," is an answer often met with a blank stare.

It gets slightly better reception when I simply say, "I am a fitness coach."  People generally have an idea what I do at that point, but honestly…they're usually very wrong.

 

You see, as a Beachbody coach, I am not a personal trainer.  I don't work at a gym and I don't come to your house and tell you what to do to get fit or lose weight. I don't teach exercise classes. I am not a physical therapist.

Now that you know what I'm NOT, let me explain what being a Beachbody coach is all about…and why you probably need one.

 

A Beachbody coach is really a support and accountability partner.  Most of us know what we SHOULD be doing…eating less junk food, eating more veggies, getting more exercise, etc.  But, most of us don't do it for more than a day or two in a row before we get off track. Again. My role is to actually hold you accountable to what you said you were going to do – even after you've lost the motivation you had when you said you were going to do it.  I am here to remind you WHY you made the decision to change your ways and to support you in sticking to your decision and your committment so you can succeed. 

 

I don't have all the answers and I can't force you to do anything, but I can provide you with support and even tough love to take care of yourself and live your best life.

That's a high level overview of what being a Beachbody coach is all about. Now, let's get practical. Here is what I literally DO on a daily basis with customers and potential customers.

1.  Help you choose the right program and/or product for you to do in the comfort of your own home on YOUR schedule. I take into account your limitations, challenges, preferences, struggles, and of course, your goals.  Beachbody has dozens of programs to offer, including extreme/intense workouts such as Insanity and P90X as well as low or no-impact programs such as Tai Cheng and PiYo.  We have a program with a strong nutritional component to help you tackle your portion control issues (21 Day Fix) and we have bodybuilding program (Body Beast). We  have programs that are similar to group exercise classes at the gym (e.g., TurboFire) and many more.  We even have a 21 Day Reset that is focused entirely on whole food nutrition to give your body a complete tune up without exercise. They all work. They are all effective. The key is to choose the right one.

Then we move on to the OTHER thing I do as a Beachbody coach…

2. I hold you accountable to your chosen program/product.  I mainly do this through Challenge Groups hosted on Facebook. My team and I put together private groups of people who are starting a workout program on the same day – sometimes everyone does the same program; sometimes people are doing different programs – and then we post daily and ask the group members to do the same.  As coaches, we post motivational items, information, and tips/tools.  We ask group members to post when they've completed their workouts, what their meals were like, and even what challenges and/or successes they had.  We encourage lots of photos and interaction to keep the group interactive and inspirational.  If someone is not on Facebook and/or does not like the group dynamic, we can make other arrangements, but most people find they really love the Challenge Groups and think it's worth it to get on Facebook even if it's strictly for the purposes of checking in each day.

So – ask me again.

You: "Kristen, what do you do?"

Me: "I am a support and accountability coach with Team Beachbody.  I help you find the right program for you and then hold you accountable to sticking to it as you work on reaching your fitness and health goals while saving time and money by working out at home."

You: "That sounds amazing! What do you charge for your coaching?"

Me: "That's the best part! Once you order your program/product, you get a free coach (that's me) and you have access to me forever! There is no charge for what I do. Beachbody wants you to succeed and so do I."

Healthy Holiday Tips!

This it the time of year people tend to stall out/give up in their efforts to be healthy and fit.  Don’t let it happen to you! Let this year be the one time you don’t have to make that same old Resolution…you can head into 2015 with great habits and a healthy mindset.  Here are 10 quick tips for making it happen.

1. Exercise – do it. Seriously. Now more than ever.

2. Eat small meals with protein throughout the day. Don’t skip breakfast on holidays.

3. Don’t be too hard on yourself. If you slip up, don’t figure you might as well just go crazy and eat everything in sight. Course correct and do better at the next opportunity (meal, workout, etc.)

4. Sleep and Relax – do it. Seriously. Now more than ever.

5. Wear fitted clothing and carry props. You tend to eat less when you don’t have an expandable waistband and when you have something occupying your hands.

This seems a bit extreme.

6. Water – drink it. Half your body weight in ounces every day.

7. Visualize yourself how you want to look and feel in January or at an event you have scheduled early next year.

8. Be the host and/or bring healthy dishes when you’re a guest. Give food based gifts away. Bake less – no one NEEDS you to make 17 different kinds of cookies.

9. Plan ahead – schedule workouts in advance. Keep convenient snack foods on hand and bring them with you when you’re travelling. If you’ll be out of town, scout out healthy restaurants and active things to do. You can even bring Beachbody workouts with you and do them on your laptop!

10. Prioritize – sometimes putting your health first means saying, “no” to invitations. Choose your splurge at each event and enjoy every bite, but make sure everything else you eat/drink will help you reach your goals.

BONUS!
Be accountable. Don’t just write it down after you eat it, but find someone who will give you tough love and commit to faxing them a picture of everything BEFORE you eat it and getting their “permission” to consume it. Get a workout buddy, too.
